Drawing from a place reminiscent of his childhood, Creative Director Alessandro Michele chose the Capitoline Museums to unveil the new Gucci Cruise 2020 collection.
The Dia-Art Foundation in New York, the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey in London, Pitti Palace in Florence and Promenade Des Alyscamps in Arles: every year artistically and historically significant places turn into the stages of Gucci Cruise shows.
Offering a unique look inside centuries-old history of Ancient Rome through a rich antiquities collection, the Capitoline Museums will set the mood for the new women’s and men’s collection.
Located in Michelangelo’s Piazza Del Campidoglio, on top of the Capitoline Hill, the beginning of the museums has been traced back to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated bronze statues to the city of Rome. First opened to the public in 1734, the museums are regarded as one of the oldest museums complex in the world. Housed in two buildings—Palazzo dei Conservatori and Palazzo Nuovo—connected by Underground Galleria Lapidaria, the collection includes ancient Roman bronze and marble statues, medieval and Renaissance art, elaborate frescoes and a magnificent view of the Roman Forum.
