A canvas for the Gucci’s designs since it was founded in 1921, Cruise 2018’s collection of foulards—a word of French origin meaning a square silk scarf—show a mix of eclectic motifs.
Flora, the emblematic Gucci print of flowers, plants and insects, originally created by Italian artist Vittorio Accornero for Princess Grace of Monaco in the 60s is redrawn with tigers, lit up with color. "Blind for Love" appears in gothic font profiling a print of mix of roses and rose buds scattered over an ivory scarf. A multicolor eye Mystic Cat print is inspired by vintage postcards. Another design features words from an obscure source: a text from the "Goldfish Dream," by American artist Jonathan Borofsky—who throughout the 70s and early 80s would record his dreams upon waking up in the morning.
