Daelim Museum

Located in the residential neighborhood of Tongui-dong, near historic Gyeongbokgung Palace, the Daelim Museum has opened as Korea’s first a photography museum since 1997. Today, its exhibitions embrace photography and design, with an unexpected creative vision to function as a museum where the everyday becomes art.

To this end, the Daelim Museum’s shows suggest new types of lifestyles, allowing the public to enjoy art within everyday life, by casting new light on the value of objects. 

The museum’s cultural center aims to building lasting networks with local and overseas artists, promoting the international exchange and setting new standards in contemporary art and design. Daelim also supports experimental and creative activities of young artists as well as promoting public education and community projects.

Daealim Museum and Gucci

The first Gucci Place unveiled in Korea shares with Gucci’s creative vision a love for contemporary art and design. Shown at the Daelim Musem in 2018-2019, ‘Is It Tomorrow Yet?’ was the first solo exhibition in Asia by Coco Capitán. The young artist and photographer—whose signature handwriting featured on a lineup of ready-to-wear pieces and accessories from the Gucci Fall Winter 2017 collection—presented over 150 artworks in a wide range of media including photography, painting, handwriting, video, and installation.

Recently, a new exhibition supported by Gucci opened its doors at the Daelim Museum. Curated by Myriam Ben Salah, ‘No Space, Just a Place. Eterotopia’ proposes a new definition of what an “other space” might be: a place to build a different, desirable future with new ways for humans to relate to each other and to their surroundings.
