Burning flashes of light refracted in a mirrored show space accompanied with a beast’s roar.
The Fall Winter 2019 fashion show began with a commanding call to the senses. Rich in tailoring, pattern and decoration, many of the looks were worn with masks. Spiked, colored, one in the form of an eagle, the masks represented showing and hiding who we are, and to protect the kindness and beauty inside. Elongated jackets with wide trousers featured in men’s suits, and a trench was defined by a graphic G motif jacquard. A new design of the Gucci Zumi bag was divided in red-and-white, and sneakers were constructed from diverse leathers and fabrics. Gold metal ear coverings—some featuring colored stones—were inspired by the 24-karat gold work ‘Fashion Fiction #1’ by artist Eduardo Costa, 1966 (published in Vogue US, February 1968).
