Social status, religion, safety, military rank or simply weather conditions: headgear has always been a defining accessory.
Alessandro Michele conjured up macro details and unconventional shapes for Fall Winter 2017 with influences ranging from traditional South American hats and a style popular after it was worn by a silver screen actress in the 30s. Knit hats from the collection include one design inspired by the ‘Chullo’, a Peruvian or Bolivian style with earflaps; while another knitted headpiece is a wool hood that closes under the chin with a crystal flower. A baseball cap has an athletic vibe, featuring a sweatband written the Gucci logo. Elaborated pieces include a crystal studded braided wool headband and a glimmering all-over crystal embellished net mask. Designed for grand entrances (and a standout element of the Fall Winter 2017 campaign image) is a cartwheel hat with an extra-wide brim—a style made famous in the 30s worn by Vivian Leigh.
