Yves Tumor

Yves Tumor is as mysterious as the music the musician creates, a mixture of ambient electronica and soul vocals.

The name is the latest in a line of pseudonyms, the artist prefers to stay behind the scenes, letting the sounds speak for themselves.

For #GucciGig, a series of musical performances and artist collaborations featuring Gucci eyewear designs, Yves created images and videos with Jordan Hemingway. Daubed in paint, Yves wears Gucci aviators cast in sharp gray-yellow light. The results are like glitch filled transmissions over airwaves, reflecting the quick transitions of Yves’s music. The videomaker turns Yves into a pop art style icon in red, green, and bluish images. A disco ball marks a party but the colors suggest the end of the world.

Yves’ latest album, Safe in the Hands of Love, is cinematic, with songs flowing into and out of each other, the sounds of watching late-night television. Experimenting in samples and filters, Yves creates a combination of loop and sample based music and live instrumentation all composed and performed mostly by the musician.
There’s a pervasive sense of doom to the music, but it’s not without hope, this same idea is seen in the photographs, where beauty is seen even in the harshest surroundings.
