A Culinary Union of Two Cultures
Gucci Osteria Seoul creates Italian-style interpretations of traditional Korean dishes to honor the Gucci Cruise 2024 fashion show.
To celebrate the Gucci Cruise 2024 fashion show that took place at Gyeongbokgung Palace, the team at Gucci Osteria Seoul specially curated a selection of dishes that symbolize the convergence of Korean and Italian cultures, united in their long culinary traditions and respect for the aesthetics codes of beauty.
A historical landmark that embodies the past and the present, the Gyeongbokgung Palace was not only the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty, but also a center of great developments in science, literature, architecture, and art. To honor the cultural significance of the palace, Gucci Osteria Seoul chefs created 'Regina di Mare', an Italian-style interpretation of 'Domi jjim', a dish that has been served to the royal family since ancient times, and incorporates the traditional Korean five colors of harmony: yellow, blue, white, red, and black. In a glorious display of color, the dish brings a yellow clam and saffron broth, red Guazetto sauce flavored with sea bream bones and tomatoes, green salsa verde sauce flavored with Italian parsley, with black and white snowflake mushroom and tree ear mushroom garnishes.
Further symbolizing the union of Italian and Korean culture, the team presented the dish 'Saenggwabang', which takes its name from the location at Gyeongbokgung Palace where special royal meals are prepared. The dish transforms the Korean 'Maejakgwa' dessert into Italian 'Chiacchiere', served with 'Damgangda', a traditional tea containing honey and ginger that the Joseon royal family drank after meals to help digestion, which became a ginger and honey-flavored cappuccino froth, served on a teacup decorated with traditional Korean patterns.
