Marco Bizzarri poses a challenge to CEOs to act now for the environment.
Gucci’s President and CEO called on executives from other sectors to address the urgency of the environmental situation right now. Despite positive commitments to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions to meet future targets around carbon neutrality and net-zero, these actions aren’t helping immediately.

The CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge by Marco Bizzarri accounts for the total emissions a companies’ activities generates immediately. The plan proposes to continue to focus and prioritise reducing and avoiding emissions, but while technology and solutions are being developed to resolve these emissions, companies still need to account for and be responsible for them today.

The driving idea is to invest in and translate these unavoidable emissions into nature-based solutions, like protecting biodiversity and critical forests around the world which remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, directly helping to mitigate climate change.

Alongside a letter to CEOs from Marco Bizzarri, there are a series of guiding principles that companies would need to follow to accept the CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge, including:
• Take responsibility for GHG emissions within the company's own operations and across the entire supply chain.
• Measure GHG emissions across the supply chain.
• Implement a transparent climate strategy to avoid and reduce the company’s GHG emissions.
• Mitigate and offset all unavoidable emissions following avoidance and reduction efforts annually and through verified nature-based solutions.
• Provide annual reports to share progress towards reduction targets as well as offsetting projects’ positive outcomes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to raise awareness for the critical importance of conserving and restoring nature.

Marco Bizzarri’s letter to CEOs and the CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge guiding principles are on a new dedicated section of www.equilibrium.gucci.com as well as a platform for CEOs to register their interest in committing to the Challenge.
