To celebrate the 75th anniversary of its emblematic bamboo top-handle bags, the House transports a traditional Japanese tale into the present. Set in a dreamy take on today’s Tokyo, ‘Kaguya by Gucci’ features the Gucci Bamboo 1947 and the Gucci Diana from the Beloved lines.
Gucci Bamboo 1947
In post-war 1947, when traditional materials were difficult to find, Guccio Gucci and the House’s Florentine artisans decided to use the lightweight, durable bamboo for the handle of a new bag, forging an instant emblem.
An evolution of a bamboo handle tote first introduced in 1991, the design represents the notion of style in constant evolution and is reimagined with removable, neon leather belts—a nod to the functional bands used to keep the handles in shape.
