In November 2009, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini flew to Malawi for her first UNICEF field visit.
Frida spent time on the ground with local UNICEF representatives visiting schools, a care center for orphans, homes and a hospital in and around the capital city of Lilongwe.
She also visited and played with the many orphans and small children in remote villages who are benefiting from Gucci-funded UNICEF programs, and had the opportunity to learn more about the most pressing health and social issues facing this impoverished country.
Malawi Field Visit
Since 2005, Gucci has committed over $8 million to UNICEF to support
life-saving initiatives in Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa. This
trip allowed Frida the opportunity to see firsthand the vital work that
the humanitarian organization is specifically carrying out in Malawi.
The field visit coincided with the worldwide launch of the 5th annual Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF, which featured a new Michael Roberts children’s book, "Snowman in Africa," and specially designed accessories inspired by the book.
