GUCCI MAKES COMMITMENT TO PRESERVATION OF KOREAN HERITAGE
SEOUL April 23, 2012 – Today Gucci announced a five-year sponsorship agreement with National Trust Korea (NTK) designed to preserve traditional Korean heritage, at the opening ceremony of Gucci’s special archival exhibit at the Korea Furniture Museum, entitled “Timeless Touch of Craftsmanship: Korean Heritage Meets 91 Years of Gucci Archive.”
Gucci is pleased to support the NTK, for five years through a total donation of KRW 500 million. The donation will be used for NTK projects that focus on preservation of historical Korean sites and cultural resources in Korea.
As a brand with over 90 years of heritage, Gucci is dedicated to
preserving significant historic artworks and cultural legacies for
future generations.
Korean Heritage Meets Gucci
Gucci and NTK share the same vision for cultural heritage, and the NTK is the perfect organization to translate donation into real help for preserving Korean heritage.
For the exhibit, Gucci brought 80 pieces from its archive located at the Gucci Museo in Florence, Italy, for the first time to Korea.
The exhibit shows striking harmony between the Italian craftsmanship of Gucci’s archival pieces and Korean artisans’ worked as seen through approximately 1,500 furniture and accessory items that boast 300 years of history in Korean traditional houses, known as ‘Hanok.’ Gucci collaborated with the KOFUM to reflect its appreciation towards traditional heritage, in line with its philosophy of respecting the traditional craftsmanship from its own heritage. The exhibit runs from April 25th to May 12th for three weeks.
