RENOWNED JAPANESE MANGA ARTIST HIROHIKO ARAKI TO HOLD FIRST EXHIBIT IN ITALY AT GUCCI’S FLORENTINE SHOWROOM

Gucci is pleased to announce that renowned Japanese Manga artist Hirohiko Araki will hold his first exhibit in Italy at the House’s Florentine showroom on via delle Caldaie. At the forefront of Manga storytelling for 30 years, Araki has selected for the exhibit a special collection of original works, including fashion illustrations created for Gucci as well as pieces from his long-time series “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.” This unique crossover between fashion and Japanese comic strip narratives will be open for public viewing from June 28 through July 14.
The exhibit follows the recent collaboration between Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini and Hirohiko Araki this past January. Inspired by Giannini's designs, Araki created an exclusive Manga story entitled “Jolyne, Fly High with Gucci” and  brought the windows of Gucci's worldwide direct store network to life with special installations.

Now Araki brings his works directly to Gucci’s birthplace, Florence, with a selection including the distinctive illustrations from this year's “Jolyne, Fly High with Gucci” as well as “Rohan Kishibe goes to Gucci,” a Manga story created for Japanese magazine SPUR in 2011 to mark the House’s 90th anniversary and Araki’s 30th year writing. Previously shown at the House’s Shinjuku boutique at 2011, these works drew 22,000 visitors over the twenty-day display. Also on display, works from “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” the long-time series for which Araki is best known, tell the tale of an epic adventure beginning in England in the 1880s. This series has sold over 80 million copies worldwide and all parts have enjoyed translated publications in Italy. Together this collection of works reveals the unparalleled world of Hirohiko Araki, characterized by energy, sensuality and compelling appeal - for a powerful statement on fashion and pop culture.
