GUCCI TO UNVEIL RENOVATED SEOUL FLAGSHIP STORE
February
2012 – Gucci is pleased to announce the opening of its newly renovated
Seoul Flagship store in March 2012. Located in the Chungdam-dong luxury
district, the shopping destination now spans more than 3,000 square
meters and features a design concept by Creative Director Frida Giannini.
“Chungdam-dong
is now one of the world's most prestigious retail destinations, so I
wanted to amplify the luxuriousness of the boutique’s environment
through natural light and space to create an aesthetic, which represents
the vision of the House today," explains Giannini. “Throughout the new
design concept there are references to iconic Gucci materials and
elements of stores from the past, but always set in a context that is
thoroughly modern, creating the ideal backdrop for the collections.”

Giannini’s innovative store design concept, which employs open space,
warm luxurious materials and natural light to spectacular effect, is a
departure from traditional codified fashion retail spaces, and paves the
way for Gucci’s 21st century contemporary look. Signature Gucci
materials of rosewood and marble are enhanced with the introduction of
new elements such as ribbed glass, warm polished gold, smoked mirror and
smoked bronze glass, recalling the elegance and richness of the Art
Deco era. Geometric lines, including stylized characterization of
Gucci’s signature green and red stripe, define the internal space by
adding further symbolic detailing.
On the façade, alternating smoked mirror and glass cross 45 meters of Apgujung-ro – while rose gold tubes cover 17 meters and reflect the intensities of the sunlight throughout the day. Along the exterior of the main entrance, adjacent to the Chungdam intersection, black marble features Gucci’s iconic Diamante pattern.

The first floor boasts 3.5 meter high ceilings and employs white marble
sliced with a wide black marble strip. Smoked bronze glass and shiny
rose gold metal harmonize across the walls. The staircases that connect
the floors showcase arrays of rosewood and gold metal lines, while the
hand rail recalls the House’s web striping. The radiant lighting
contributes to the warm intimacy and sophistication of the store
environment.
The newly renovated store features three floors of retail space. The first floor is dedicated to a wide selection of Gucci’s accessories: handbags, luggage, small leather goods, fragrances and sunglasses. The second floor houses the women’s collection, including ready-to-wear, silks and jewelry; as well as the children’s collection. The third floor displays the men’s collection, including ready-to-wear, a space dedicated to the House’s Made to Measure service and a private VIP lounge.
