THE STIRRUP BAG
Gucci is pleased to introduce the Stirrup
bag, a new classic that revisits the past with a modern edge, while
perfectly complementing Creative Director Frida Giannini’s seductive and
glamorous collections.
Inspired by an iconic model from 1975,
the Stirrup bag is a rigid frame style that boasts an intricate
construction and unparalleled workmanship that reflects Gucci’s core
values and longstanding expertise. From cutting the various components
to the final polish, it takes a seasoned artisan almost two days to
craft a Stirrup bag.

Echoing the House’s riding heritage, the overall shape evokes a stirrup
and features a spur in light gold hardware on the front panel. This
exquisite yet sober bag is available in soft calfskin, glossy ostrich,
washed or shiny crocodile and painted python. Traditional manual
techniques put in practice by master artisans further enhance the plush
texture of the skins. For example, the washed crocodile requires two
applications of hot wax color, subsequent hand daubing to create a
“chiaroscuro” effect, and hand polishing and washing to obtain an aged
look. The python instead is sprayed with three layers of color before
being polished and ironed.
All the edges are hand sanded, brushed, painted and polished. The interiors are just as precious, lined with either a tone-on-tone nappa or a cotton and linen blend. The rich color palette is awash with spicy tones such as light brown, red and curry brown.

Introduced in 2012 Fall Winter season, the Soft Stirrup bag is a
supple interpretation of the House’s distinctive stirrup-shaped handbag
and is available in luxurious materials such as washed calfskin and
nubuck, both lined in either natural GG linen or leather, as well as
exotic skins like python, ostrich and crocodile, all with suede lining.
The precious skins are the result of traditional manual techniques, put into practice by Gucci’s master artisans to further enhance the plush textures. The crocodile proves extremely soft and natural thanks to the application of special oils, while the aged yet shiny look of the python is the outcome of a multi-ironing process and other manual treatments.
