From the heart of
the Gucci archives is Diamante Canvas - an exclusive fabric design tied to
Gucci’s storied legacy. Its distinctive criss-cross pattern, which features
small connecting dark brown diamonds on a tan background, was originally the
Florentine House's debut signature print.
Created in the mid
Thirties, the diamond pattern was first woven onto hemp and used on luggage as
one of Gucci’s innovative solutions to pre-war leather shortages. The design’s
criss-cross configuration served as a precursor to the famous GG logo, which
still remains one of Gucci’s most iconic hallmarks.
Diamante
Although featured
throughout the Fifties, the Diamante Canvas was left largely unused until
Creative Director Frida Giannini rediscovered it in the Gucci archives. The
elegant and subtle design has now made its way to a limited collection of Gucci
pieces including handbags, shoes and small leather goods showcasing both
Gucci’s enviable design legacy and its contemporary edge.
